Tasty Tuesday

Good morning friends! Well, it is STILL snowing here in the mountains of Virginia. I don't believe it will ever stop!! They just now closed school for the day so my son is one happy camper! I still have to go to work so I'm not so thrilled but what can you do? Hubby is driving me today but he goes back to work tomorrow so I will be on my own. Say a prayer or two for me please! I hate driving in this stuff!

Today, in honor of these cold temps, I thought I'd share a warm recipe with you. It's a potato soup recipe that is so good and warms you right up on a cold winter's day!

Old Timey Potato Soup

1 med onion, minced
1/4 cup butter
4 cups diced raw potatoes
2 cups water
1 tsp salt
4 cups milk
few dashes celery seed
salt and pepper to taste
4 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled (optional)
chopped green onion (optional)
sharp cheddar cheese, shredded (optional)

Saute onion in butter until translucent. Add potatoes, water, and salt and cook until tender. Add milk and seasonings to taste. Simmer a few minutes before serving. Top with bacon, green onion, and cheese. Enjoy!

Stay warm and safe today! Until next time. . .

Monday Makeover!

Good morning everyone! It is cold, cold, cold here today and Mother Nature is blessing us with another 2-4 inches of snow today and tonight. Yay! NOT!!! I'm so ready for spring already!!

Today's makeover is this cutesy little country shelf that my hubby inherited from his ex-wife! Actually, she didn't want it when they divorced and he doesn't like to throw anything away so he kept it. I liked it o.k. but since I'm more into primitive country decor now, I decided it needed a makeover. Here it is before:

I decided to paint it black with a light coat of red on top of that. I then distressed it with some sandpaper and glued the star over the heart cutout on the top panel. I may go back and add a coat of stain to it, I'm not sure yet. I kind of like it just the way it is now so we will see. Here's the after:

And here it is all decorated up:

So there ya have it! My next challenge is trying to figure out what to put on the top of my fridge. I've been pondering this for a while and have a few good ideas in mind. I'll keep you posted!

I hope everyone has a great Monday and stay safe and warm today! Until next time. . .
