Project 2012 ~ Improving Me!

Yesterday I shared my Project 2012 goals for my home. Today, I'm sharing my Project 2012 goals for improving me.

I think we all have things we would change about ourselves. Most everyone makes the weight loss resolution at the start of a new year and more often than not, most of us break it before January is over! While I would like to lose a little weight, I have decided that I am not going to set a specific amount to lose by a certain date. I am going to focus on eating healthier and exercising more this year. This will be a challenge for me because I definitely do not like to exercise and I have a tendency to choose foods that aren't so healthy sometimes. So that is goal number one for 2012.

Recently, I was really inspired by Debbie from Debbiedoos Blogging and Blabbing when I saw a post she did on her new hairdo, complete with highlights. It has been years since I've had my hair professionally highlighted, so I decided to treat myself as an early Christmas present and go for it! Please excuse the mess you see in these pictures. Our yorkie, Sophie, thinks the couch is her territory so I have to keep blankets handy for her to lay on. And hubby had just finished a snack right before these pictures, and he is bad to leave his paper towel and paper plate laying around instead of taking them to the trash where they belong! Men!

What do you think? My hair is naturally a medium/dark brown and I decided to lighten it up a little bit with the highlights. I was very apprehensive while I was having it done, because I had no idea how it was going to turn out. Thankfully, I was extremely pleased with the end result! This did not cost very much money, but it made me feel so good!! So goal number two for improving me in 2012 is to keep up with this and not be afraid to try new things when it comes to my hair!

I desperately need some dental work done but I will admit that I have an insane fear of dentists! This stems from a few really bad experiences I had as a child, and I literally have major panic attacks when I have to go to a dentist. So goal number three for improving me is to face those fears and finally have the beautiful smile I have always wanted.

And finally, goal number four is a simple, but important one to me. I have some nice clothes, but I tend to just wear the same accessories with just about everything. I want to experiment with different styles of earrings, necklaces, scarves, belts, and shoes/boots. I see a lot of great things on line that I think I would love to try that usually aren't what I would choose for myself while shopping. Here's a few examples of some styles that appeal to me. All images were found on Pinterest.

To sum it all up, I guess I am wanting to step out of my comfort zone a little bit in 2012 and try some new things. I am excited about this journey and anxious to see where it takes me! Are there things that you want to improve upon in 2012? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Until next time. . .

  1. Hi Donna,
I can completely relate with all your goals for the new year.
Now that I have entered my 40's I know I must start taking better care of myself.
Im not too concerned with loosing weight, even though I do have about 10 pounds I would love to get rid of.
But my biggest concern is living healthier.
Im a junk food junkie. Seriously!

I recently (as in a few months ago) got a new hair cut. First time in literally years. Now I just need to get back and have it trimed.

Dentist... oh heck yes, I need to go see him too.

New clothes.. Yep that too. My outfit is pretty much the same everyday, a sweatshirt and jeans.

The truth of the matter is...
I hate to "have to" do anything!
That is something I must work on this year.

    Your new do looks fabulous!!!
    Love the highlights.
And I love Pinterest for seeing the clothes others have put together.

Wishing you and yours a Very Blessed New Year.
    Hugs,
    Tam

I want (NEED) to lose some wt. and I hate exercise too, BLECH! so boring:/ I guess walking would be the best way but I am even lazy with that, I thought about showing a full body pic on my blog then updating from that, kind of like holding myself accountable, LOL, I would either A~succeed, or B~make a fool of myself and give up, HA!

  6. Hi
Just popped in and wanted to say that your hair looks great. I had to comment on your fear of the dentist as I can sooo relate. I found a wonderful dentist who gets me right in (hate being in that chair) and is so patient with me...we have a signal and he promised he would get out of my mouth quickly if I touched his arm. By all means, let your dentist know how you feel and then he can give you as much control over the situation as possible and you will find that this will help! We got through nine crowns and the most dreaded thing of all--a root canal. We found that just a little valium is very helpful as well. I still feel anxious when going but not the "pure terror/panic" thing. My fears stem from not being able to swallow and being confined to that chair--control issues. Prayer is a big help as well!

  7. Your hair looks great! I wanted to encourage you on your dental visit. I too have that kind of fear but found a very patient dentist. Be sure you tell him up front all about your fears and hopefully, he will give you as much control over the situation as possible as that helped me immensely. A small amount of valium prior to an appointment that entailed dental work is also a big help. On the first visit I had x-rays and an exam and we just talked...with prayers and his kindness I was able to get nine crowns (my previous dentist was just a patcher) and even a much dreaded root canal (would break out in a cold sweat even thinking about that one). I still have anxiety when I go even for a cleaning but it is manageable. Hope you find the right dentist to help you through as well!

  8. Moving beyone your comfort zone is an excellent resolution. I really like your new hair do.
I have worn my hair the same way ever since high school (20 yrs). I'd love to go with something new and different but just can't seem to climb over that comfort zone hurdle.

  10. YAY you! Your hair looks soooooo pretty. They did a beautiful job! So fun! Yes, I fear the dentist too, however, I am also smile obsessed, like in other words I notice everyones teeth and smiles so I try to keep up with going and taking care of my teeth. You can do it...bring a headset, that is what I do if I need a cleaning or a filling and will be in the seat for a while.

  11. Vavavoom...love the new do! I want to get my teeth bleached, after I have been smoke free for over a year. I think I deserve it....however my wallet says NO! And before I even think about trying to get prego again I am going to have to lose about 60 pounds....yuck! I made a resolution to wear my seat belt every single time in get in a vehicle...I already broke it! GEEZ!

  12. I think your hair looks great! I tend NOT to make New Years Resolutions, but I am watching what I eat. I do to an extent anyway.. but I always eat way too many unhealthy things around the holidays. Your goals sound totally attainable to me. Now go for it!

  14. I can relate to everything you are saying. I got my hair wacked off 2 weeks ago. I also got it professionally colored. I hate spending the money but I think it looks a lot healthier than when I do my $5 bottle.
I love all the outfits that you pinned also. I have a couple girlfriends who dress up all the time so it encourages me to put forth a little effort.
Thanks for sharing. We are all in this together & it helps to know others have the same feelings.
