Makeover Monday!

I cannot believe it is already Monday!! Where did the weekend go?? And why does the work week seem to take forever to end? At least it seems that way to me!

For today's makeover, I saw a very cute idea a while back on Char's blog, The Pickled Pepper Patch, where she took an empty tin can and "dressed" it up by making it grungy and adding a cute label to it. I believe she used it as a holder for a nice flower arrangement she made. This got me inspired because I love stuff that doesn't cost a lot of money and uses items I already have here at home. So I decided to give this a try. I used an empty Manwich can since we had that for dinner one night last week and it had a pull top lid which meant no sharp edges for me to have to worry about! I used cinnamon, nutmeg, and some ground ginger mixed with Mod Podge to grungy up my can. I decided to use some wall paper border cutouts instead of labels to dress my can up.

Here's the images I cut out from my wall paper border:

This was so simple and quick to do. I just painted on my Mod Podge mixture, applied my cutouts to the can while it was still wet and let it dry for a couple of hours. Then I put more Mod Podge over the can just to seal everything. I also coffee stained some cheesecloth and tied a piece of it around the upper part of my can but I didn't like the way it looked, so I took that back off! I may play with it some more cause I really like the cheesecloth but for now, this is what I ended up with:

I put a sheep on one side and a star on the other so that way I sorta have a two in one and can display whichever side I want to. Pretty clever, huh? Sometimes I amaze myself! LOL! I decided to put a flickering tea light in mine for now but will probably eventually do some sort of floral arrangement in it and sit it in my kitchen windowsill.

I have also changed out my window frame decor that hubby built for me that I showed y'all last week. This is what I did have on it and I liked it o.k. but really wanted a star so. . .

. . .I took the wreath off and hung a simple barn star in it's place. I like this much better now:

I'd love to know what you think ~ which do you like better?

We are still working on the bathroom. I was hoping to have it finished this weekend, but as I said before, time just flew by for us and there aren't enough hours in the day!! Hopefully, I will be able to get it finished up in the next day or two and you know I will post pics when I do!

School is on a two hour delay today as is the clinic where I work, so the kid and I have a little bit of leisure time this morning. He's still sleeping but of course, Miss Sophie was up and raring to go at 6 a.m. so guess who didn't get to sleep in this morning??!! Oh well, I love the peace and quiet of being the only one stirring in the morning. I've enjoyed my first cup of coffee while catching up on my blog reading so it's all good! But I do need to run. Time to get the rest of the household up and going on this Monday morning! Hope everyone has a great one!

Until next time. . .

Hugs,

  1. Donna, I love the make overs! I wonder if your craft room is like mine. All those items you can't throw away because you can make them into something else. Thanks for the inspiration.

  5. Donna I love this tin can idea! The candle is cute in it. I decorate with country and primitives too. Could I put this post link on my facebook page? I have some crafter friends who would like this idea?
I like your window both ways. The wreath gives it more dimension than the star. I wonder if you could use suction cup hooks and add something more around the star. Just an idea... Thanks for sharing! Joan @Americana By Candlelight

  7. Donna, the weekend for me also zoomed by very fast!! It means a bunch knowing that I'm not the only one who notices how fast they go!! ;)

I love what you've done with your Manwich can!! It is very pretty and very creative!! I really like the look of the star inside your window frame!! I liked the way it looked with the wreath too, but the star really adds that certain *punch* to it I think!

Our schools are still closed.. ice & snow everywhere! I'm sooo ready for spring!!

Have a great day and thank you for sharing directions on how to make your flickering candle holder!

Thank you for stopping by and visiting me on my blog too and for all your kind comments..

    Blessings,

  9. I am new to your blog..I love both looks of the window frame. But If I had to choose 1. I would choose the second one..Only because I am from Texas and my Decor consists of The Rustic look..Texas stars and Horseshoes..and barnwood, barbwire etc,, But they are both lovely! I got a question How do you get the distressed look on the wood? Do you paint over it with the white and then sand it?..I love the look and would like to try something like that.
    Thanks,
    Trish ; )

  15. What a cute little can. I have some leftover wallpaper border that I may have to try this with. I really like both windows but I think the star stands out more. It kinda grabs your attention more.

  16. Donna,

Your tin can turned out prim cute! I think I am going to frame a few scenes from my wallpaper border. There is just so much you can do with it! I love playing around with it.

I like the window with the barn star, but that's because I love stars and have them pretty much all over my house. =]
