Makeover Monday

Good Monday morning! I hope everyone had a great weekend. I sure did. The hubby, the kid and I took off Saturday morning on a spur of the moment overnight getaway to the beautiful Smoky Mountains in Tennessee. We had a great time and the temps were in the upper 50's and lower 60's so NO SNOW!!!!

I love those big metal barn stars that are everywhere these days. I don't have a head board for my bed so I decided I would make one using these beautiful stars. We recently repainted the bedroom a mossy green and I wanted a cottagy country feel so I am using cream as an accent color and that's what I was looking for when I decided to use the barn stars as my headboard. Well, of course, I couldn't find any in the color I wanted that were reasonably affordable so I did the next best thing ~ I painted some!!! Here's a before picture:

And after I painted them:

I wanted them to look "rusty" around the edges, so I took some brown paint and used a dry brush technique around the edges. It must have worked because one morning hubby and I were laying in bed talking when he asked me where I got the rusty stars! I just started laughing! He couldn't believe it when I told him I painted it. He had to take one down off the wall and check it out!

Here's a pic of how I placed them on the wall. Please excuse the afghan spread out on the bed ~ that usually isn't there but hubby is still sleeping this morning so I couldn't get a better picture!

Well, that's it for now. I hope everyone has a great Monday! It's raining here so that surely doesn't help the Monday blues! But at least it's not snowing!! Yay!!

Until next time. . .

Hugs,

  3. Hey what color paint is that...? Our green in most of our downstairs, up the staircase and in the hallways are just a shade darker ... greener and I told Sean I wanted more of a sage green color... I think the color of your bedroom would work perfectly and i wouldnt have to change my border!!

  4. Morning Donna...what fun to have a get away just cuz you feel like it and not a planned vacation. Sometimes they are the best!

I am amazed at how beautiful the stars turned out. And they look wonderful above the bed.
You must do a tutorial for these...I'm sure there are lots of members who have these stars in colors they don't care for anymore...me for one!

It's snowing here today..be lucky you have rain! lol

  5. I love that star! That's what I am wanting for my mantle. I saw some at Jo Ann's that were pink, sage and blue and I thought about painting it white but wasn't sure how it would turn out but yours looks great.

  16. Girl, I LOVE how that turned out!! My family room is painted that color, only I call it a dark sage green. I really like cream being an accent color. I love the placement of the stars and using them as a headboard. Such a neat idea! That is too funny that your hubby didn't believe you painted it! =]

Glad you are only getting rain and no snow!

  17. Love the star headboard.
We don't have a headboard at the moment either but that sure would spruce it up a bit.

  19. Donna those stars look fantastic ! Great job on them and what a unique idea using them as a headboard. We used to have a picket fence piece as a headboard till Hubbs got tired of the feminine feel in our room lol. And lucky you !!!! I loveeeee Tennessee If I ever moved that's where I'd wanna live. I love vacationing there. Hope your week is off to a wonderful start.
